Unfortunately, it's still impossible to keep car accidents from happening altogether, but what you can do is be more cautious while driving and choose a car that protects your well-being. A vehicle's active and passive safety must determine when choosing a car. This article delves into these essential safety elements and the requirements you should demand in an automobile you expect to buy.

What Does  Active and Passive Safety Mean?

First of all, there are active security systems and passive security systems. Each one has different elements that work together to prevent an accident from happening. If it has already happened, these features work to ensure the damage to you remains minimal.

Active Vehicle Safety

In simple terms, active safety systems can contribute to and improve car operation to avoid an accident. The best known are the ABS brakes, Traction Control System (TCS ), suspensions, and tires. Below you'll see that each one consists of a reason as to why your car should have it and whether or not it's an essential security system for your vehicle.

Tires

Let's start with the only system in the car in direct contact with the road, the tires. Tires are an essential active safety system that you must constantly check, so make sure your vehicle has the right tires for the streets you usually drive on, and you must also keep them in good condition. Some people don't give due importance to the tires. For instance, using tires that are not suitable or not recommended where you drive can make you lose control of the vehicle quicker, use more fuel, or repair your car constantly. Prepare your vehicle to withstand spring and summer by choosing the right fluids. ABS Brakes

When braking unexpectedly, you hit the brakes extremely hard, which blocks the tires altogether. However, due to inertia, the car continues to move forward with the tires locked, no matter how much you're moving the steering wheel. It won't turn in the direction the driver wants and can end up in a more risky situation. ABS brakes allow the driver to maneuver the car during sudden braking. They measure the tires' speed and determine which one is locked or about to be; at that moment, the system releases the pressure and unlocks the tire so that the driver can maneuver promptly and accordingly. In a car without ABS brakes would be necessary to release the brake every time you want to maneuver and step on it again to stop the vehicle. In the case of ABS brakes, the system performs this process and allows the driver to only worry about avoiding obstacles.

EBD Brake System

The Electronic Brake Distribution system, or EBD, allows the vehicle to measure the weight exerted on each tire and determine, based on that data, how much brake pressure should be applied to the tire to prevent it from losing control. To put it simply, think about the vehicle's total weight not being distributed evenly across all four tires. In a car without EBD, this unequal distribution of weight would cause, in sudden braking, the front tires to adhere more strongly to the asphalt due to having more weight and due to the inertia of the vehicle. In contrast, the rear tires would lose grip and skid, increasing the possibility of a rollover. That's why the EBD is an essential active safety system.
